Prince of Persia
I have been playing the Prince of Persia series for as long as I can remember. I can still remember my initial experience with the series with the first release of Prince of Persia on the PC with DOS and later again I was able to play an enhanced version on the Sega system. There was not much of a story as the main character was never named but beyond that it was shown that this un-named hero had fallen in love with the princess of Persia and was imprisoned by the Jaffar. Overall the story goes that the man defeats Jaffar, saves the princess, the end well somewhat.
And for the most part the story for any further games have had the same elements ever since that people have come to love.
Prince of Persia
You have to hand it to Ubisoft for totally reinventing the series with a whole new artistic feel and restructuring of the linear game play of previous games while still staying true to the original feel of puzzles, combat, and the main focus which is acrobatics while somewhat more ridged in it execution.
Another new aspect is the introduction of a new character, Elika, who plays a major supportive role. I have to say that Elika is one of few AIs that has worked rather well in helping with the players travel throughout the game. Her main role however is to prevent the prince from dying in the game. The Prince will be saved should he miss a jump, Elika will grab him and pull him to safety. In combat should the prince be pined on the ground and miss the opportunity to defend himself, Elika will save him at the disadvantage of giving the enemy time to recover a portion of health. Another nice little extra that Elika has is the compass. Should the player ever need a helping hand to show the way, Elika and her little glowing ball of light will show the way.
I have to say even though the game play is a bit too far on the easy side of things and a bit repetitive, the landscapes totally make up for it as the entire game looks as if it was painted onto a canvas. Even the story is very enjoyable in my view as we learn more about Elika and what has taken place in the lands history.
Story
All of this starts with the prince (not named) getting lost in a sand storm and literally falls into the path of Elika right at the beginning of the game. You meet Elika being chased by men from the same region and one by one you defeat them, afterwards Elika will ask the prince to accompany her to the temple. Once they arrive at the tree of life, Elika’s father will cut down the tree effectively releasing the seal that binds Ahriman. As the corruption begins to break down the building, Elika and the Prince run to escape. Once free form the initial danger, Elika explains that the seal draws it powers from the many fertial grounds in the lands which they will need to restore.
As the prince and Elika, travel to restore the land, they will have to battle four servant warriors of Ahriman who are the Hunter, the Alchemist, the Concubine, and the Warrior. Each of these warriors rule a set lands divided among each of them.
Spoiler Warning Ahead Captain
As the lands are restore through the power of the fertile grounds and Elika, the prince and Elika make their way back to the temple to restore the seal and battle with Ahriman.
Once the prince and Elika are able to gain access to the inside of the temple, Elika’s father makes an appearance and battles with the team. After the king’s defeat, the king jumps into the corruption. Ahriman then rises up and the prince must aid Elika in purging the temple of the corruption. After a few attempts to purify the temple, Elika is able to restore the seal on Ahriman by transferring her life force into the tree of life once again causing Elka to die.
As the credits roll we see the prince carry Elika out of the temple and place her on a stone tablet. Overcome with the grief of loss the prince destroys the seals and returns to the tree of life. The Prince then destroys the tree of Life and takes the energy within back to Elika. The prince then carries Elika away from the temple and heads out into the desert as Ahriman breaks free of the seal and destroys the temple.
Summary
I have to say how much I have loved this game. While the Epilogue is not really needed and I would recommend simply wanting till the next Prince of Persia comes to life. Well thanks for reading my article and hopefully my writing will improve the more I write.
